This was probably the tenth time I've rented through US Car Hire, and it may well be the last. I can't see the point anymore. I used to use this site because it meant I could pay in advance for an all-inclusive no-hassle rental. Not any more! This time, instead of Dollar, I was given Alamo who pestered me to take extra insurance, with dire warnings of high costs if anything went wrong. Also, they don't offer pre-paid tolls. Instead of paying a flat fee in advance, you now get billed AFTERWARDS for each individual toll, plus a service charge. There's also intense pressure to pay for an upgrade as well as the familiar nonsense about pre-paying a full tank of gas. You don't need this after a long flight. It used to be so easy; now it's tiresome. I have a Hertz Gold Card, so I plan to do my homework on insurances, ask them for advice, and just book through them in future as I'd do in Europe.

We registered, in advance, for the self check in at the podium. This turned out to be a very long winded process, only to be 'thrown out' having entered all our details and told to go to the counter to see a member of staff. When we mentioned this to the agent he said that the system was really designed for the domestic traveller, not the international one. We found this annoying and delayed us by at least 20 mins. We booked a mid sized SUV, but when we got to the row where they should have been, only Grand Caravans were available. It didn't actually matter to us, but it was not what we thought we were going to get. The car itself was fine, and we had no issues using it.

I had a query before booking, which was answered within minutes - so got off to a good start. After booking, my travel company changed my flight, and I was going to arrive a couple of hours early. USCarHire contacted Alamo and changed my booking - with no additional charges, no amendment fees, and no hassle. Very pleased, and will use the company again.

I have rent cars in US and Sweden and always used Alamo´s service. I find it easy, low prices and good service. And don´t do any other choices. It´s easy to check in and out. Perfect for me.:)

Uk driving license holders can not se the self service machines as they have been updated. Very disappointing after speaking the time to input the information

Used the save time kiosk but had problems as the new kiosk would not accept a prepaid voucher. instead of the process saving me time it actually took more time! besides that everything else was great.

Alamo was a great choice. We used the online check in and missed any queues going straight to the car park to have a choice of about 8 SUVs with the keys in the ignition. The Kia was a solid car and had an additional 2 seats at the back which came in use as my 2 kids has a row each when we did our 2500 miles of traveling around Florida and also Mississippi. Only thing I could say negative was that the car had very light steering and tended to float around the lane needing constant correction. The Alamo Gold hire was brilliant. I have used US car hire since 2006, always good quote and no need for extra charges on the gold hire.

Prompt customer service when I decided to change car class. At Jackson Hole Alamo processed everything quickly, though they didn't have the kiosk, so I could have saved some time filling everything on-line. Nice car in top configuration. Absolutely positive experience with nothing to complain about.

i booked on line and payed in full i also filled out the express form in order to use the computer terminal on arrival to save queuing. when i got there i went to customer information to enquire about how to use them. the woman there was quit arrogant and told me to join the Que, she did not even want to see my paper work when i tried to show her. so i joined the Que and had to wait 25 minuets while other customers booked there vehicles, needless to say there were only two cars to choose from as all the others had gone. at the desk the man serving was very pleasant and chatty then talked me into having the extra cover for flat tyre/windscreen etc and told me this would be 70 dollars for the fortnight. i agreed and was asked to provide a credit card for this payment and initial in several places and sign at the bottom. i was not concentrating and did not read the paper work, which is what i should have done as i was actually charged 166 dollars. on a positive note the car i ended up with was very nice and very clean and i really enjoyed driving it.
