The Pearl Restaurant - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Dining
My parents discovered Treasure Island on the Gulf Coast many years ago. They were looking for somewhere to bring the family for a few days by the sea away from the hustle and bustle of Disney. It is situated between St Petersburg and Clearwater and consists mainly of small motels no high rise buildings being visible.
Each holiday we usually go for a couple of nights and stay in the Thunderbird Motel located right on the very wide white sandy beach. It was on one of these trips that we discovered the Pearl Restaurant. We were recommended to it by fellow guests at the Motel and I must admit if they had not done so I doubt we would have found it for ourselves.
It is located on small strip of shops in 107th Avenue the road directly opposite the Motel. Opening hours are 4pm -10 pm Monday – Thursday, 4pm - Midnight Friday and Saturday and as we once found to our cost it is closed on Sundays.
The Pearl is smart yet welcoming, and although friendly is not intrusive and there is a lovely cozy atmosphere. The décor is tasteful and just a little bit exotic. Nick the Head Waiter who I believe has worked in the area for many years welcomes guests as though they are his friends.
Last time my brother and I went we started with the Champagne Sangria which really had a kick. Nick is very knowledgeable about wines and recommended a bottle of white that we had with our meal and thoroughly enjoyed
My brother ordered and loved the baked brie whilst I opted for the Tuna Martini which was a delight to look at let alone eat! This was served in a Martini glass and was fresh Ahi Tuna in a spicy hot sauce with seaweed and topped with Tapioca it was truly delicious.
During the meal the owner/chef Karim, I believe he is Moroccan, came out to see us and was very polite and gracious.
As an entree, I had the rack of lamb and I asked for it to be cooked medium and it was perfect. The meat was tender and literally fell off the bone. The lamb was served with a honey-rosemary sauce and accompanied by perfectly cooked asparagus.
My brother ordered the Royal Pearl and really this was large enough for two! When it came it was made up of large shrimp, large sea scallops, fresh sea bass and half lobster tail in a lobster champagne sauce.
We just about had room for deserts and shared the chocolate soufflé and berry vanilla dessert, my favourite was the soufflé.
We were very fortunate to only have to go 50 yards back to our Motel after a very enjoyable meal.
