SpectroMagic - Orlando / Florida Guide

Florida Guide > Disney Parks

I’ll never forget the first time I saw Walt Disney’s spectacular evening parade ‘SpectroMagic’ at Magic Kingdom. It was one of those times when you don’t know whether to laugh or cry because your emotions are carried away and you almost cannot believe what you are seeing.

From the moment the music began I knew we were in for a special treat but I could never have envisaged just to what extent it was going to actually affect me. I could hardly speak for the entire time the procession was passing before me because of the lump in my throat and the feeling that at any minute I would burst into tears. Tears of joy and excitement as each fantastic display of twinkling coloured lights glided past on the seemingly never ending floats.

As the street lights on the parade route are dimmed all your favourite Disney characters appear on floats that are lit with millions of fibre optic lights that shimmer and dance in the darkness. Not only are the floats decorated in this way but also all of the characters are covered from head to toe with the same glistening lights.

The parade begins with none other than the boss himself, yes you guessed it, Mickey Mouse as he peers into his crystal ball and conjures up his special magic. The Three Little Pigs, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins and a scene from Fantasia are amongst the floats that light up the parade route as they glide serenely down Main Street and through the rest of the park.

Then just when you think it cannot get any better, with a flick of a switch, all the lights on the floats and the characters change from being multi-coloured to a mass of gleaming silver white. Pure Magic!

Excellent viewing locations can be found all along the parade route but from my past experiences one of the best places to watch is upstairs at the Main Street Station. However, you will have to arrive early as it is one of the most popular venues to watch SpectroMagic and also the fireworks later on in the evening.

If there is one thing that you should not miss when you visit the Magic Kingdom it is SpectroMagic followed by the best firework display ever, namely “Wishes”. With a combination like this Disney has to be onto a winner every time, they know what the guests want and they give it to them and more besides. Disney’s reward being that visitors return year after year after year. I know this to be true because I am one of them!
