Sarasota - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Other Florida
Sarasota is situated in the gulf coast about a good one and a half hours drive away from Orlando
To get there you would talk the I 4 towards Tampa then the I75 south
Sarasota has lots to offer. For a start the beach at siesta key has fine white sand with the texture of fine powder. There is parking very close to the beach and you just walk over the dunes and you are on the beach. The water is much warmer and calmer than the Atlantic coast and is so clear you can see to the bottom of the sea.
You can hire sun beds and parasols and there is a snack bar just on the beach.
The other good beach at Sarasota is Lido Key this is a very clean beach but our preference is siesta beach
When you have had enough you can have a ride along to saint almonds circle, here there are lots of different shops in which to brows around from the usual touristy things to nic nacs and there
Are also lots of very nice clothes shops? Whether you are browsing or shopping there is plenty to see
If your fancy is something different then why not hire a boat for the morning / afternoon or the full day. They are available in all sizes, the 6 seater seems the most popular we generally take a picnic and get a boat for the afternoon if you ask when hiring the boat they show you a map on the inland waterway were the wild dolphins are located (you are not allowed to feed them) and the riverboat police are up and down the waterway so beware.
When you locate the dolphins and pat the side of the boat they just swim up to it, there are also manatees swimming in the waterway.
As you motor down the inland waterway you get to see all the big coastal homes with there big power boats moored at there own private jetty’s (how the other half live)
It’s a great way to enjoy a day on the water away from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks our kids love it.
There are also lots of very good restaurants in Sarasota one of our great favourites is Sugar and Spice this is situated on the corner of cattleman’s road. This is an Amish restaurant with excellent food and if you can’t manage dessert then you need to take some home as it is so good you would feel as if you were missing out on something
I do hope you try Sarasota.
