Lake Louisa One of Florida's Hidden Gems - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Other Florida
Talk about Florida holidays to anyone and they immediately think of visiting theme parks and beaches. On our many trips to Florida we have often drove past Lake Louisa’s National State Park and promised ourselves a visit. Well on our last vacation we eventually got round to it and thoroughly enjoyed our day out in this hidden nature spot. The nature reserve at Lake Louisa National Park is situated on Highway 27 going north towards Clermont.
On entering the nature reserve you will be greeted by a park ranger who will take your entrance fee of $4 for a vehicle with four passengers. In return you are given a brochure with a map of the parks range of facilities and you are then free to go ahead and explore.
Lake Louisa has six lakes and some really outstanding scenery of rolling hills, lakes and woodland. There are several walking trails which wind around and through hillsides, lakes and woodland. These walking trails are all well marked and have informative photo boards of the types of flora, fauna, birds and animals that are surrounding you. We took a leisurely stroll around the 5 mile walk and found it very relaxing. The three nature trails provide a complete contrast to trekking around the theme parks. If you intend to walk one of these trails, remember to take plenty of bottled water with you.
Four of Lake Louisa National State Park’s beautiful lakes allow fishing, canoeing and kayaking, so if you are hankering after a days fishing this is the perfect location for you. Dixie Lake has a fishing pier, canoe and kayak launch, there is also has a picnic pavilion which is a good place to stop and have a picnic lunch in beautiful scenic surroundings. If you enjoy outside cooking, barbeque pits are provided.
Lake Louisa National State Park provides many forms of accommodation. If you are an RV traveller you will find a campground with all the usual facilities provided. Tents are also catered for on a more primitive campground. For people who require a more static vacation home there are several fully furnished chalets, which are rented out. These holiday homes surround one of the beautiful Lakes. What could be more perfect than to start the day surrounded by beautiful scenery in the wonderful Florida sunshine.
On your next visit to Florida why don’t you drive down to Lake Louisa National State Park and see Florida and its wildlife in all its natural glory.
