Many of our guests come to Florida just for the golf after all Florida has some of the best courses in the World and you can barely swing your putter in central Florida without hitting at least half a dozen great courses but if you’re a regular and you fancy venturing a little further away from Disney you will find yourself spoilt for choice with some of these amazing courses. Almost all of them are well within an hour of the Disney area and those that aren’t are definitely worth the drive! So pack your clubs in the back of your SUV and get exploring some of the lesser known clubs!
Winter Park Golf Club is located in the historic and fashionable Winter Park, this club is the second oldest in golf club in Central Florida, it was opened in 1914 as a nine hole course and still is today. There are no tee times, it’s a first come first serve system and a great favourite with local residents.
Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes, this sophisticated semi private course has been rated four and a half stars by Golf Digest. Renowned for its tasteful use of native vegetation and wildlife, the course is an Audubon Sanctuary. Its natural rolling and curvature enhance the oversized greens. The 8th and 18th holes are classics.
Winter Pines golf club is an inexpensive and convenient golfing treat, this course is nestled in the charming neighbourhood of Winter Park and the playing experience here is often described by golfers as easy and relaxing, the course is almost always in great condition.
Dubsdread Golf Course opened back in 1926 and is steeped in history and lore. Many consider it to be a good old fashioned course. Amoung the famous golfers who played here are Sam Snead and Ben Hogan.
Legends Golf and Country Club combines breathtaking views with high end country club amenities. The 5th through 9th holes, elegantly designed with hills, undulations and stunning views, joursey over and past water, waste bunkers, tiered fairways, rock bulkhead greens.
Metro West Country Club is epitomized by broad generous fairways with 100 ft elevations, water hazards and expansive bunkers. Metro West is a fair but vigorous test of golfing skill. The par 4 9th hole is adorned by a plaque attesting that PGA Tour pro John Daly drove over the hole’s broad lake to the green. The more conservative golfer will drive straight ahead before looking left and hitting a mid iron approach.
