Florida Mall Part 2
Brookstone is a very upmarket version of our own Gadget Shop. Mind you they only sell the top quality goods, not silly plastic toys. These goods are not cheap but are so unusual it makes you think it really is what you have always wanted! My husbands laptop bag on wheels that has enough room for clothes for an overnight stop, is excellent quality and will last for years, mind you it was $99 plus tax. (around £68)
Jewellery is an absolute bargain, diamonds are less than half the price of jewllers in England and there are so many jewellery shops. Victoria’s Secret is a world famous ladies underwear shop and always has goods on sale plus they have a new store open called Victoria’s Secret Beauty which sells lovely bath and body products.
There are stores for just sweets, coffee, food, toys, electrical goods, shoes, clothes and even a shop which specialises in tea! Quite a novelty for a nation of coffee drinkers. There are shops dedicated to kitchen goods, Sonama is one such, it is very high quality and very high priced, although compared to the UK, still cheaper. I recently bought some Global Cooks knives as a wedding present which were about a quarter cheaper than at home.
There are many shops dedicated to children and babies and Carter’s baby wear is amazingly cheap – not the quality, the price. Novelty babygrows for the equivalent of £5. I just love the teddy bear winter all-in-ones for newborn and under one year olds. They have hoods with teddy bear ears and teddy bear paws on the feet. These are under around £8. Top quality prams are under $300 here compared to more than twice that for a good pram in the UK.
At Christmas time they really come into their own at Florida Mall. Santa’s grotto is wonderful and as America is not in the EU and subject to the stupid rules, the kiddies can sit on Santa’s knee and tell him what they would like him to bring them. The looks on their faces is just magical. The whole mall is full of Christmas music playing and Christmas decorations and Christmas trees and unlike us, they don’t start this in September! To enjoy the magic of Christmas here you have to wait until mid November.
So on your next trip to Florida remember to bring an empty suitcase and fill it with goods from the Florida Mall
