Changes at Disney World - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Disney General
In the light of Universal Studios Harry Potter experience it seems that the Disney Corporation have decided it is time for a make over of their parks. I have to admit that I felt this was needed some years ago so it is very good to see what has already been done.
At Downtown Disney Market Place, not a great deal has changed except for a few new restaurants and a re-vamping of some of the shops. The Lego shop has been enlarged with the opening of Lego World where the old Cypress Gardens used to be.
In Pleasure Island a new water front area is under construction and will feature water side cafes and a boating lake and trips in a pleasure cruiser.
In West Side they are building a new bowling Alley - not like the one you father used, they say, so it will probably be very high tech. It will include eating and drinking areas.
The Magic Kingdom is where most of the changes are being made and will not be complete until 2014. They are in the process of building a new Snow White ride which will take you through the mine to meet the seven dwarves and Snow White in their cottage.
Already complete is the area which used to house Toon Town. This is now called The Storybook Circus. There is a new roller coaster ride for little ones called The Barnstormer and is a fun ride with Goofy. The highly popular Dumbo ride has been moved to this area too. There are cages with animatronic animals inside and new dining areas and snack bars. There is a souvenir shop, a silly side show and a picnic area.
Moving on from there is a new Beauty and The Beast area which has the Be Our Guest Restaurant which is the dining hall that featured in the film and Gaston’s Tavern which serves drinks and snacks. In this area is the new Belle’s Story show which is an audience participation feature. This show is really just for young ones and their parents.
Another new ride is Areil, the little mermaid’s ride called, Under The Sea. Here you will be transported in sea shells under the sea to meet all the characters from the film of The Little Mermaid, Ariel, Eric, King Triton and the wicked half octopus half human, Ursula. This ride is fun for all the family.
It is very exciting to see the new areas and rides taking shape and makes me want to come back each year to see the progress.
