Universal Studios Island of Adventures – Part 1 - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Universal Parks
When Universal Studios first opened it started at the entrance by the globe and what is now Islands of Adventures and all the night clubs and cafes was the car park. How it has changed. Now there is a vast multi story car park and two parks.
In the Island of Adventures are the more thrill rides, The Incredible Hulk. The Amazing Adventures of Spider Man and Dr Dooms Fearfalls, These rides are all for the serious thrill seekers and not for the faint hearted.
In the children’s area is Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges is a pretty hairy water ride. The white water rapids is a churning splashing raft ride on which you will get very wet – save this for very hot day. Alongside this ride is Me Ship, The Olive. This is an interactive play area for the children. Dudley Do-Right’s Rip Saw Ride is a log flume coaster ride with a long drop at the end – you will get very wet in this one too.
Leading into a larger play area is Dr Zuess and The Cat in The Hat. This is a ride for the little ones and a play area where they can run, climb and slide all day if they wish. There are several other rides for little ones in this section from carousels to gliding over the park rides. The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride is a gentle glide over the children’s area but has a height restriction because of the height of the ride.
On to Jurassic Park. There are two rides in this section, Jurassic Park River Adventure, described as “A river raft ride through dinosaur habitats becomes a chilling race for survival. Can you escape the assault of ravenous raptors and a hungry T-rex or will you end up a dinosaur’s dinner? ” Another one not for the faint hearted. The second ride is more gentle but pretty high up, so has a height restriction. The Pteranodon Flyers glides over the whole Jurassic Park area and affords you a wonderful view of the whole park.
In the Lost Continent you are greeted by The Mystic Fountain. This is a fun attraction that interacts with anyone who walks up to it – unless it is snoring, then it is asleep (operators coffee break perhaps)!
The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad is a stunt show of epic proportions. The action takes place in a spectacular setting – a mysterious grotto littered with the wrecks of ships lured to their misfortune by the evil sorceress. There are battles between the heroes and the ghoulish minions, explosive pyrotechnics, and eye-popping stunts including a fiery plunge into the water below.
Poseidon’s Fury is another show but in this one you walk through different sections. However, I found this rather amateurish and disappointing so I would not recommend it.
