Texas De Brazil - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Dining
If you are bored with the usual chain restaurants or fast food and looking for somewhere to eat with a twist, this could be the place to try. Situated just off I-4 in the popular International Drive area, Texas de Brazil offers meat lovers a feast for the eyes and the stomach!
Firstly it is not the usual short shorts and Disney t-shirt casual dress code, smart casual attire is more acceptable which is kind of nice for a change – no jacket or tie required fortunately for the men. It’s worth calling ahead for a table as like most places it gets busy at peak times. Each diner is charged a set fee – it was $40 plus tax when we visited in 2006 – which was good value if you starve all day and eat well! Children are charged less. Free parking outside or use the I-trolley which runs around the International Drive area.
The décor is dramatic and smart. The first thing I noticed were the chefs cooking meats on the open flame grill behind large glass panels down one side of the room, giving guests a great view of what’s on offer besides the salad bar which is simply one of the best buffets we’ve experienced. 40 dishes are on offer including delicious homemade soup and breads, dressings and toppings plus the salads, cheeses and side dishes such as garlic mash.
It is an option to have just the buffet if you wish so there is something for all. If that isn’t enough the waiter tissues each diner with a card, red for Stop and green on the flip side for Go! The servers parade around the restaurant with their skewers of sizzling meats fresh from the grill and what a choice there is, from different cuts of steak including filet mignon, to sausage and picanha to chicken and pork. Have as much or as little as you wish, simply by flipping the card to Green the serves stop to ‘fill you up’. You can request a particular meat to be done your way if you prefer other than medium steak.
Not having a big appetite I just tried a few cuts but all were tasty and tender. The children, then 11 and 14 loved it all. My favourite dishes were on the salad buffet – roasted pepper soup, garlic mash and homemade breads. Desserts were the usual affairs, though none of us had any room for them! Hand rolled cigars, fine wines and cocktails are also on offer.
Highly recommended for a memorable meal in nice surroundings without being overly ostentatious. Check out their website as they sometimes have coupons for off peak periods.
