T Rex Restaurant at Downtown Disney - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Dining
This is the latest restaurant to open at Downtown Disney have opened mid October 2008. The restaurant is owned by Landry who also own Rainforest Café. If you have ever been to the latter you will see a lot of similarities between the two restaurants.
T Rex has a prime location in Downtown Disney as it is the first thing you see when you pull into the car park. It is situated near McDonald’s and Fulton’s. For the next few months they will not be accepting reservations.
There is a stroller parking area outside the restaurant as well as a fenced area where the kids can play in the sand and find some bones. You will find the sand area to the right of the safari car; it is sometimes difficult to see when there is a queue.
As they are not yet accepting reservations you need first to check in at a podium outside and wait for your “expedition” party to be called. Although the queues seem to be long the wait is usually less then half an hour.
As you are taken to your table you see that the restaurant had incredible themeing and the dinosaurs are fantastic, they actually move and roar! The Dinosaurs have signs by them to indicate what type they are so not only are the children being amused and fed but educated as well! Once you are seated you will see that even the tables are themed.
There are several dining areas and also a bar that adults may sit at to eat if they wish. The bar looks like a big block of ice! It is advisable to take a jumper anyway as the restaurant can be quite cold.
Apparently there are numerous photo opportunities around the restaurant. Be prepared for a lot of noise (as you also get in Rainforest Café) although I have heard some adults complain about this others say it is not worse than you get in McDonalds. About every 20 minutes there is a simulated meteor shower that makes all the animated dinosaurs go crazy and the noise level doubles for a few minutes while all the lights go down and overhead looks like a lightening storm.
We have yet to eat here but apparently the menu is quite vast although a little more expensive than usual although most restaurants seem to be in this area. I have heard however it is well worth it for Dinosaur mad kids.
There is actually a gift shop inside the restaurant. Here you will find lots of tee shirts, key rings, etc. as well as a Build a Dino shop in the back where you can create your own dinosaur. However it is best to visit here after your meal because if any of your party is browsing in the shop rather than with their party when your table is called they will not seat a partial party.
I hope if you visit TRex you will enjoy not only the meal but also the experience.
