Lake Louisa State Park-5 - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Other Florida
Florida and its lively theme parks are amazing but sometimes its nice to do something a bit different, perhaps keep Dad or Grandad happy with a spot of fishing. Lake Louisa State park is the perfect way to completely unwind, and spend some time with nature, watching the boats on the sparkling water, or seeing how many different types of birds you can see.
Lake Louisa State Park is located on US 27, seven miles south of State Road 50.
Only a short drive from Orlando, this park is noted for its six beautiful lakes, rolling hills, and beautiful scenic landscape. The 4,372-acre state park, consisting mainly of bald cypress, live oak and saw palmettos lies on the shores of Lake Louisa in the northeast corner of the Green Swamp. Louisa is the southernmost lake in a chain of 13 lakes connected by the Palatlakaha River, which is designated as an Outstanding Florida Water. There are six lakes in the park, Louisa being the largest of them
Some of the park activities include camping, boating, canoeing, horse trails, nature trails, fishing, cycling and as you would expect an abundance of wildlife, including many different types of birds may be seen. Picnic tables are provided so you could take a packed lunch and make use of a full day at the park. Showers are provided in case you can't resist having a dip in the shimmering lake, and swimmers can also use the small beach if they wish.
Lake Louisa State Park also has fishing access at four of the lakes. Lake Louisa while being the largest lake offers fishing access off of the lake’s shoreline. Dixie Lake and Hammond Lake also offer fishing. Anglers typically catch largemouth bass, bluegill, and speckled trout, and I expect there are a few anglers there willing to tell you all about their “catch”. Fishing permits are easily available and can be purchased from the larger supermarkets such as wal mart.
So, if you feel like having a relaxing time whether fishing, hiking- (For hikers and backpackers, the park has over 20 miles of hiking trails) or just lazing in the sun watching the wildlife, then lake Louisa is a haven for the tourists looking to escape the bustle of the nearby theme parks.
Lake Louisa State Park is located on the shores of Lake Louisa in the northeast corner of the Green Swamp.
