Cocoa Beach - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Places to Visit
In between those wonderful days in the Disney parks although fabulous as they are, and they are, you might be tempted to have the occasional day off, and a great way to take a day out and just chill, is to escape to Cocoa beach.
Cocoa beach is just an hour’s comfortable drive east of Orlando on Florida’s beautiful space coast. Six miles long, cocoa beach is located on a barrier island nestled between the great Atlantic ocean and the banana river lagoon. The primary attraction is the weather, with it’s coastal location and positioned where two climatic zones meet (subtropical and temperate) the weather here usually avoids extremes.
Widely known as the surfing capitol of the east coast and is home to several surfing champions. There is so much to do here from fishing , boating, sightseeing, surfing (of course), shopping , dining, or just enjoy a day at the beach where you are likely to see dolphins at play or you might even be lucky enough to spot a whale in migration.
There is also the famous Cocoa beach pier which is a historical landmark, stretching some 840 feel over the Atlantic ocean and features a wide array of restaurants, boutiques and gift shops.
Not far away you have the Merritt island national wildlife refuge which is located on the John F Kennedy space center, east of Titusville Florida, The refuge is home to more than 500 species of wildlife, 16 of these are currently federally listed as threatened or endangered. Here there is also a manatee observation deck where as many as 42 manatees have been seen there during spring months.
The tropical climate and exotic landscapes offer endless ways to enjoy recreational and leisure time and there really is something for everyone, You might also want to visit the Kennedy Space Center or you might just be lucky enough to see a space shuttle launch.
There are many great bar’s and restaurants along the coast and some wonderful hotels (just in case you might fancy an overnight stay). I can recommend a fabulous bar called Coconuts on the beach….extremely trendy and popular and a wonderful place to just sit and relax, people watch ,and take in the wonderful surroundings… they also do great food and you could easily while away a few hours here.
I fully recommend a trip here and do not think you will be disappointed.
So the next time you are wondering where to visit for some time out , try Cocoa Beach).
