Adventures Unlimited – the rope challenges. - Orlando / Florida Guide

Florida Guide > Places to Visit

High in Florida’s panhandle there are rolling hills, fast flowing streams and dense forest. It is a region that seems totally disconnected to the main peninsula and what most people come to associate with a trip to the sunshine state.

But here, set in picturesque surroundings, just north of the town of Milton is Adventures Unlimited, an outdoor centre that has just about something for everyone. The most popular pursuit, by far, is a river trip that can be made in kayaks, canoes or rubber tubes. There are several water courses to explore ranging from a short four-mile adventure to a more serious fifteen-mile journey which encounters plenty of white water.

For those wishing to stay on dry land there are some serious rope challenges in which to participate and this article attempts to describe what is on offer.

Adventures Unlimited does focus its attention on attracting corporate groups to take part in team building exercises but this does not preclude the holidaymaker or day visitor from getting involved. It is true that you will become part of a team, but what better way to get to know people, and as we look back on our time there, it was an experience never to be forgotten.

The low rope course caters for those who may just feel a little uncomfortable with heights so the main emphasis is on a number of physical and mental challenges aimed at promoting a good team spirit, but above all ensuring the participants have lots of fun.

During our visit the teams were asked to traverse over one hundred yards of woodland without touching the floor. Using an assortment of logs, planks, boxes and rope pulleys they developed innovative strategies for completing the task which included making see-saws and imaginative wooden bridges.

For those of a stronger disposition the high rope option can provide a real adrenaline rush with team challenges being fought out, up to seventy feet, in the air by use of log bridges, aerial swings and exhilarating zip lines. Safety, of course, is of paramount importance and each participant is properly attired with harness and a hard hat.

The latest addition is the Pirate’s Tower which is very much a physical and mental challenge against the clock. The question is just how quickly can all team members reach the sixty-foot high platform using just rope pulleys and their own strength. This can be exhausting but also very rewarding for the victors.

If you have a love for the great outdoors, possess a competitive streak and enjoy meeting people, why not stop off at Adventures Unlimited…. . you won’t be disappointed.
