For those of you that are fans of the splendid Bok Gardens (and come to think of it, maybe particularly for those of you that have never been) there is a summer of music planned for this year.
On june the 25th, The Porchdogs are featured in the second of the series. The Porchdogs describe themselves as playing Cajun and Zydeco music. What is Zydeco? well I had to ask this question myself and the answer is that is has its roots in creole music and now blends soul, hip hop, ska and rock.
During july the Repeatles star and here I will give you a moment or two to work that one out. Did you guess right? well it is of course a Beatles tribute band. What is not to like about The Beatles? Gotta be something you like in a repertoire that extends into 3 figures. This takes place on the 23rd.
On the 27th of august you can see the folk and blues star called Garrison Doles. Garrison composes his own songs and his somewhat (ahem) colourfull past life informs his song writing.
The final concert stars Victoria De Lisovay and her quintet. This is jazz with a samba feel and they feature the songwriter Phill Fest. They are especially known for their intricate harmonising.
The concerts begin at 7. 30 p. m. with doors opening at 7 p. m. However, might I suggest that you book the optional dinner which is served at 5. 45 pm.
The dinner choices will change monthly and each has a choice of a meat or fish dish and one for vegetarians.
In june there is Chicken and Andouille Etouffee (or Vegetarian Etouffee) In july Beef Bourguinon (or vegetable Ragout) August has a homemade Lasagne (or Vegetable Lasagne) and in september there is Baked Salmon (or Mushroom Stuffed Eggplant)
Included in the cost of your dinner is salad, vegetables, rolls and dessert. Also included is your choice of soft drinks, iced tea or coffee.
Those of you that have eaten in The Blue Palmetto Cafe before can testify to the quality of the food.
Concert and dinner together costs $39. 50 and each concert only is charged at a modest $20.
If you book all 5 concerts, then there is a discount but you are too late for that this year. Something to put in your diary for next year maybe.
