Bangkok - Part 2 - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Places to Visit
Your next stop is to visit Wat Arun (the temple of Dawn). For a scenic, peaceful and less congested route across the Chao Phraya River, take a boat. You will be poised and ready to glimpse the coloured porcelain temple in all its ornamented glory.
After seeing some of Bangkok’s historical beauty, visit one of the city’s contemporary hubs: The Jam factory. This stylish transformed and reinvented group of warehouses blends design, function, shopping and food. The complex, designed by Thai architect Duangrit Bunnag, includes a design studio, a gallery, various shops, a café and a restaurant. The Jam Factory is a bustling creative space for in-tune locals and, with its lush courtyard, it also provides some peace and quiet when needed.
Visiting two of Bangkok’s most iconic cultural sites before noon and experiencing some energizing contemporary design definitely merits lunch.
Try Sala Rattanakosin, which offers a spectacular view of Wat Arun and serves fresh, modern Thai dishes and a selection of crisp, satisfying craft beers. The Yam Gai Gati (a coconut-poached chicken dish) and the Tom Yung Kung (a hot sour soup) are stand out dishes.
Bangkok’s relentless midday heat offers an opportunity to experience the city’s burgeoning speciality coffee scene and a regroup. Thailand’s coffee culture originates in the north near Golden Triangle with increasing production in Chiang Mai region. Grab a coffee and a dessert at one of the locations of the Swedish influenced Rocket Coffee bar, a popular multicultural spot. Take the opportunity to explore surrounding Sathorn, and up and coming part of town with plenty of shops, galleries and design studios to visit.
After exploring the streets of Sathorn on foot, it’s time to take a break and relax. No tour of Bangkok would be complete without experiencing Thailand’s ancient healing massages. The city is home to many upscale spas such as Harnn where visitors can enjoy a variety of treatments including the world famous Thai-massage.
Heat to the Pullman Bangkok King Power for some drinks to start your evening. The newly redesigned lobby offers a cosmopolitan and vibrant feel, offering guests an area to work and play, transforming completely from day to night, with gourmet coffees and tapas-style snack throughout the day and signature cocktails by night. By day, you will find a tech-savvy space for working and relaxing. In the evening and later, the lighting dims and a DJ plays and the lobby’s unique rotating atmosphere takes a more playful vibe.
