Shopping at Aventura Mall, Miami - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Shopping
We discovered the Aventura Mall last Easter, during a trip to our villa in Orlando, when we managed to spend a couple of days in Miami. This huge mall, with over 200 shops, is centrally located, just north of Miami Beach, and south of Hallendale Beach, and is easily accessed by the I-95.
However, if you want a more scenic route then why not do what we did, and drive all the way up the A1A from Miami? It is a long coastal road which runs parallel to the sea, and provides a fascinating view of some of the beautiful places which overlook the Atlantic Ocean. From here, take either the William Lehman Causeway (192nd Street Causeway) and then turn north along Biscayne Boulevard, until you see Aventura Mall on your right hand side, or take a left along Hallendale Beach Boulevard and make a left onto Biscayne Boulevard, where Aventura Mall will be found on your left hand side.
If you choose the I-95, then take either the Pembroke Rd exit, or Hallendale Beach Boulevard, or Ives Dairy Rd. Go east to Biscayne Boulevard, turn right and Aventura Mall will be on your left. You cannot miss it, it is well signposted and there is a huge car park in front of it. Like most malls, Aventura is open 7 days a week from 10.00 am until 9.30 pm, but on Sundays it does not open until 12.00pm, and closes at 8 pm.
It is a huge mall, a little dated at the moment, but undergoing extensive renovation which should be completed by the autumn of 2006, and which will make it a stunning shopping venue. It has all four of the major stores, Macy’s, JC Penney, Sears and Bloomingdales as well as Macy’s Men’s Home Furniture. Nordstrom is opening in the Autumn of 2007. It has nearly 200 stores inside and is well laid out, on two floors, although after its re-modelling there will be a third level. There is a vast AMC Theatre with 24 screens as well as a Food Court and numerous major restaurants scattered throughout the Mall.
If it is clothes you want then there is everything from Gap, Diesel, Guess, Abercrombie and Fitch, Banana Republic, Toscani, to Victoria’s Secret (great for ladies underwear!) Jessica McClintock, Mimi Maternity or Swim ‘n Sport. Men are well catered for, too with everything from Armani Exchange, Hugo Boss, Kenneth Cole Bernini to Gap, Guess and Diesel. For children there is the Disney Store, KB Toys – great bargains here for the kids – and lots of clothes shops such as Baby Gap, Cheeky Baby and Kids, GapKids, Janie and Jack to name but a few.
As for shoes, well all the favourites of course, including Clarks of England! You will have no trouble keeping the whole family happy with Jewellery, Electronics and Music, Sporting Goods Health and Beauty and of course Home Furnishings and Speciality shops such as Brookstone, Lladro, Swarovski Crystal and Toscani.
But all that shopping may make you feel a little in need of a meal or a snack, and you won’t be disappointed at Aventura. One of our favourites, the Cheesecake Factory is there, as well as Johnny Rockets, Mama Sbarro, Bella Luna and Sushi Siam, and many more. The Food Court, soon to be revamped and modernised, has the usual fast food outlets, including Asian Chao, Cajun Grill, Charley’s Grilled Subs, Chicken Kitchen, Sarku Japan, Salsa Grill and Mrs Field’s Original Cookies and Haagen-dazz.
Then you can finish off with a good movie at the huge, state of the art 24 screen AMC Theatre, with stadium seating and Dolby digital sound. But Aventura Mall is not just about shopping, it offers entertainment in the form of special appearances by various artists. Children are also catered for with a large indoor mall playground in Sears courtyard, and there is even a Kid’s club, too.
Following its extensive renovation this will be one mall you will not want to miss!
