If I told you that there was a place you couldd go with a 200 acre natural reserve, a spectacular beach, forests and wildlife and then told you it would cost only one dollar, would you believe me? Well, it it is perfectly true!
Amelia Island State Park lies betwixt the Nassau Sound and the Atlantic Ocean and is not far from Jacksonville. It has one outstanding feature and that is the ability to ride horseback down the beach; the only State Park in Florida to allow this. You can experience this guided horseback tour from Kelly Sea Horse Ranch which is a concession. The trained staff will accompany you and with any luck you will see a dophin (or maybe even a whale). Also well known for the quantity and variety of birds; you may see pelicans, plovers, skimmers and terns. Bald Eagles are sometimes spotted in winter months.
The beach is very peaceful and natural and there is shelling, swimming or just admiring the breath taking view. At the most southerly point, there is a panoramic view that is quite stunning.
The fishing is wonderful; you may use the Crady Bridge Fishing Pier or surf fish on the beach. There is a mile of pier to choose from so you will never jostle for a position. The state record for the largest flounder was set here Spring and autumn are the best times to come.

Another concession, Long Island Outfitters will rent you a canoe or kayak. They are located 6 miles south of Anastasia Island. They will also provide you with a guided tour. You can take a tai chi paddle, sunset paddle, full moon paddle or birding paddle. Call 904 251 0016 for info
Amelia Island is one of a chain of barrier islands that run from South Carolina to North East Florida. The geography of this island is some what different to the others in the chain as there has been much intervention by man to control the erosion and beach.

Park hours are 8am til sun down 365 days of the year.
