A must for motor fans - Daytona USA - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Other Florida
We were on our way up to Jacksonville from Miami when we decided to stop off at Daytona Beach for the afternoon. After spending some time just mooching around and doing a bit of window shopping on the waterfront, we made our way inland to the famous Daytona International Speedway which is located just off Interstate 95 about a mile north of the Interstate 4 intersection. A free of charge Park-and-Ride facility was in operation between the Speedway and the main parking areas of Daytona Beach so we didn’t even have to move the car from where we had originally parked.
We were not great motor fans but the famous name of Daytona coupled with the fact that we were so close by provided sufficient allure for us to take a look and satisfy our curiosity. We were far from disappointed and for those who describe themselves as motor enthusiasts, this is an absolute must.
The highlight of the day for us was a visit to Daytona USA which is an interactive motor sports attraction sponsored by NASCAR and features all kinds of hands on excitement which has been designed to appeal to everyone, irrespective of their interest or knowledge of motor sport and that can certainly be endorsed by ourselves because we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
The highlight for us was the ‘Speedway Tour’ where you board a tram to see the world famous Daytona International Speedway up real close. Just close your eyes and you can almost feel those high-powered cars all around you taking on those high-banked curves at amazing speeds only previously seen on a television screen. The extremely informative tour also takes in the garage areas and the pit lane. With ample photo stops along the way, this thirty-minute tour is a superb way to take a behind-the-scenes look at such a world famous venue.
There are several other shows and activities included in the ticket price, which are each deserving of a separate article, but to give you a taster they include Acceleration Alley which is a simulator which can only be described as the ultimate racing experience on the high banks of the Daytona International Speedway.
Others include The Daytona 500 Movie, which is about the drivers and teams preparing for the Daytona 500 race and Toyota Tundra’s Thunder Road, which is a motion simulator ride that includes a 360-degree flip.
Enjoy your time here we certainly did.
