Naples and Marco Island - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Other Florida
We stayed 10 nights in Marco Island. We flew into Orlando International airport then drove down using the I-75. This journey will take you approx 3 - 4 hours. You can also fly into either Miami or Tampa. There is also a small airport in Naples.
We rented a villa for 10 nights then drove back up to Orlando and stayed 5 nights in a villa there to enjoy the parks before flying home.
Marco Island is one of Florida's Ten Thousand Islands. The location of Marco Island is on the Gulf of Mexico in Southwest Florida. The attraction is the white beaches and a casual easy paced life style.
To the south of Marco Island lies the sprawling 10, 000 Islands. Marco island is the largest of the 10, 000 Islands.
Gulf water temperatures range from the low 60's in the winter to the high 80's in the summer.
The restaurants are fantastic and cater for all tastes. Most of the villas for rent in Marco Island are situated on the waterways and it is so relaxing sitting watching all the boats go by or catching that amazing sunset.
There are many beaches located in and around Marco Island and the beach that we used was called Tigertail beach which we could walk to from the villa we rented. On this beach you can rent umbrellas and chairs and they also have showers and restrooms.
While we were staying at Marco Island we visited Naples which is just a short drive. Naples is a beautiful town and again there are beaches and lovely intercoastal waterways. We took a boat trip which went down the intercoastal and seen some of the most amazing homes you could wish to stay in. The locals call them the Naples Seaside Mansions.
Naples also has some nice shops and the most popular shopping areas are on 5th Avenue, Bayfront and Third Street South. Located on these streets are also plenty of eating places. One of our favourite eating places on 5th Avenue was called Cheeburger Cheeburger and of course as the name suggests it serves burgers which are the best I have ever tasted and if you ordered a root beer it came in what I would describe as a Jam Jar. Also located just of 5th Avenue is a place called Tin City. Tin City is a mix of shops and restaurants located on the waterway. Here you can also take the many boat trips or hire your own and explore the intercoastal waterways.
Or if you prefer just head down to the beaches and watch the amazing Sunsets.
