Regarding the weather, be prepared for extra warmth. January and February are the coldest months in Madrid. We’ve left behind the rainiest season, but that does not mean that rain will not show up. Even if that happens, do not worry, Madrid has many attractions to enjoy the city without having to suffer the weather.
Great museums, theaters, shopping malls or visiting the palace can be the perfect excuse to take refuge from the cold and enjoy a nice visit. We have summarized them all so we can explain you what Madrid has to offer you during your stay in the city.
If the weather is nice during your visit… do not even doubt it: enjoy a nice walk around the city because there is probably nothing more enjoyable than strolling through Madrid avoiding the hot summer. If you like shopping, you’re in luck, with the arrival of winter, sales are all around the city, and this is, no doubt, the best time of year to go shopping and to get the best prices. Feel free to enjoy a day of shopping at the Barrio de Salamanca, the Barrio de las Letras, the Salesas of downtown Madrid.
If the day is rainy, just take advantage to visit the Prado, the Reina Sofia or the Thyssen. We would like to recommend you a visit to an unknown place for tourists in Madrid, quite close to great museums: there is an impressive, tropical greenhouse inside the train station of Atocha, open to the public. It can be visited fore free.
