Wild Waters – Ocala - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Other Parks
Situated just to the east of Ocala, Wild Waters sits adjacent to the more well known tourist attraction of Silver Springs and is a wonderful place for the whole family to cool off and escape the extremes of the hot Florida sunshine.
Think of water parks and immediately Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach spring to mind, and there is no doubt that Wild Waters is a serious competitor with its plentiful choice of thrill rides and water slides.
Being in Ocala, some ninety or so miles from Orlando, it does have the benefit of not being as busy as the Disney water parks. It is also has the advantage of being newer, with more rides, and all for a very modest cost. Indeed a day ticket can be had for around just $25 which compares extremely favourably with the offerings from its rivals along International Drive or Walt Disney World.
So, just what has Wild Waters got to attract visitors.
Well, for those of you who just like to relax, there is an opportunity to soak up the sun on the man-made beach or, if you prefer, cool off under the shade of a large palm tree with a good book.
For the more adventurous there a huge wave pool, and for the little ones there’s an aptly named ‘Cool Kid’s Cove’ which provides safe bathing and a multi-level fun zone.
But for those serious adreline-charged souls who are prepared to contort their bodies there are thrill rides with names such as ‘Osceola’s Revenge’ and the ‘Silver Bullet’ on offer. Indeed these two flumes propel the riders through a series of twists and turns at death defying speeds before spitting them out into the relative safety of a plunge pool.
Alligator Ambush is a high-energy tube ride where unsuspecting guests are propelled through a darkened tunnel before being deposited into a giant bowl that spins them around at great velocity while circling a water spraying alligator.
The ‘Hurricane’ is a flume ride with a difference. This one has thrashing wild water throughout and half-way down introduces a turbo boost which the accelerates rider through the final 100 feet of darkened tunnel.
Wild Waters is a good one and a half hours from the Orlando area, but it is a pleasant drive northwards and the park has a great range of activities that is sure to satisfy the needs of both adults and children…and of course the intrepid thrill seekers amongst you! !
