Visiting the Parks Part 4 - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Days Out
All parks have children’s buggies for hire at a very reasonable price. The place to hire these are usually at the front of the Parks and wheelchairs are also available there. The kids love them and they are handy for putting your bags on etc (we used to take a small cool bag with drinks in to save a little cash. Freeze bottles of water in the freezer at the villa, and they melt during the day and then you can always fill up the bottles at the water fountains all around the parks. ) Do not worry about leaving the buggies when you go on rides, every ride have a buggy-park outside it. However all the buggies look the same although there will be card with your name of on the back so best to tie something personal onto your buggy to make it more easily identified. Do not leave any personal or valuable items on your buggy as the buggy parks as they are not staffed all the time. Double buggies can be good even if you have a one small child and the other is about 5 years old. The older child will want to rest at some time in the day.
I believe you can get timetables of when and where the characters can be seen in various Parks but if you forget to do this keep your eyes peeled you see characters appear for a few minutes for pictures and autographs throughout the Parks.
You can buy autograph books at the Theme Parks or in the supermarkets; they tend to be cheaper in the latter. Always have your page ready and a large pen for the characters to be able to grip easily, the pens sold at Disney for a few dollars and are ideal and a great talking point when you get home. It is too hot generally for the characters who will also pose for photos with you to stay out for more than around 20 minutes. However when the guide says that the character “will be back in five” – this is true and they will be so wait around if they say this.
Many rides have Single Rider Lines, ask the Cast Members that you will see on the outside part of the queue about these. A single rider line means your party will be separated, but you will bypass the inside queue and waiting time. You will be loaded in vehicles as single spaces become available, if you do not mind riding alone these really do speed up your progress.
Most of the parks have water areas (springs, fountains etc) and when it is hot, it is a good idea to have swimsuits for the kids in a bag or under their clothes and they can get truly soaked. Mind you in the hot summer months ours have gone in fully dressed and are dry within 15 minutes! You will see lots of kids in swimsuits and shorts but please remember your sunblock. We keep our girls with Factor 25/30 on at all times.
This is part 4 of Visiting the Parks guides I hope it has been helpful.
