The magic of Christmas in Florida - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Miscellaneous
Walt Disney World is not the only sensational sight at Christmas time. Once you have cleared the (still humourless) customs hall, you will come across the most enormous Christmas tree you have ever seen in the airport terminal. As you drive along through all the highways you will see decorations everywhere. Lights at the front of buildings, stores and holiday complexes all with lights emblazoned with Happy Christmas, Seasons Greetings or even of course Happy Holiday.
Every restaurant is decorated and the obligatory Christmas songs are played all over the place. Many of the staff in shops and restaurants wear Christmas hats or tinsel around their necks. It is really a wonderful place to spend Christmas time.
At Seaworld, one of the lakes is transformed into an ice-rink and they perform a fantastic routine for the Christmas season, as good as any professional ice show you have ever seen. The whole park has displays relevant to Christmas; sleighs full of toys, snowmen and Christmas trees plus all the lights after dark, that are hung all over the park.
In the town of Celebration, Walt Disney’s idea of what a perfect suburban town should be, after Thanksgiving up until the new year, it snows every hour after dark in the main street. Children have snowball fights and run and slide in the snow. Alongside this is an ice rink which has skating aides for children to help them skate without falling over. At the end of the street at the side of the lake is a massive Christmas tree all lit up and there are rides on a horse drawn carriage or a pioneering style horse drawn buggy. These rides take a short ride around the town and through the surrounding streets. All the shops sell decorations for trees and the whole house.
All the shopping malls have huge Christmas trees and Santa Claus grottos and all the shops sell the most wonderful decorations, gift ideas, toys and gift sets. There are of course the usual Christmas songs everywhere. Some of the beauty shops and chocolate shops have amazing gift sets for Christmas presents.
We always buy our Christmas presents in Florida as they are on average half the price of those in the UK. Do remember the weight allowance though and not to buy electrical goods as they wont work in the UK. They have things that we just do not have at all in Britain.
So, enjoy your holiday and your Christmas in Florida, you will remember it for a lifetime.
