American Footbal - Tampa Bay Buccanners - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Other Activities
My husband has always like watching American Football, and for some reason has always followed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last Christmas when we were in Florida he wanted to go and see them play in Tampa. We booked our tickets from their website and were really looking forward to going. I was not particularly keen to go, I have often thought that American Football as a wimp’s version of Rugby – they wear far too much protection!
So we set off on our journey down the I75 towards The Raymond James stadium in Tampa. When we got close to the stadium we were amazed at how well organised everything was. There were Police everywhere directing traffic, showing you how to get to the car parks etc. It was much better organised then anything I have seen in the UK.
We parked up our car and strolled towards the stadium. We were amazed to see that almost every car in the car park had a BBQ and Ice Box set up behind it and the occupants were drinking and eating in the sun shine. At this point I realised that we should have done this as well – it seems like a grand tradition and one that I will partake in on my return.
Heading towards the stadium we were handed a ‘gift’ for attending the match. We were both given Bucc’s backpacks – (they were very useful for the rest of the holiday). Our seats were up in the nosebleed section as we had booked so late, so we made our way to the numerous escalators to get to our seats.
Wow – what a view from the top! The pitch was so green and everywhere was so spotless – it was nothing like going to ‘footie’ back home! The game started and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. OK, so I still do not know all the rules, but that did not stop me cheering!! The Americans in the crowd were very impressed to have UK fans in their section and kept asking my husband all about how long he had supported the Tampa Bucks! The game was very interesting and exciting – I think my husband really liked the Cheerleaders too!
Leaving the stadium was equally as organised – the roads are closed and only run one way to divert the traffic away from the stadium. We were on the I75 within minutes!
The atmosphere was simply brilliant – it was one of the best days out that I have had.
And Tampa won!
Would we go again? DEFINITELY!
