Take A City Break With A Twist - Part 1 - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Travelling
The current trend of delving into great wildernesses, and seeking out wide open and people less places can be very pleasant. However sometimes it’s fun to go where there are people. Exploring the planet is all about every side of travel so let’s embrace the frenetic, energetic, dynamic cities for a spot of culture and urban madness. There’s no need to stick to the obvious city break spots that you find in all the brochures. There are many that are overlooked yet offer plenty of action. The plus side of these places is that the masses of tourists are missing, not to mention cities that are springboards for more unusual adventures. So let’s look at some of the places and the things you can do. This might inspire you to check out a location further and then book a trip.
1. Copenhagen : Feel like a Scandi TV star
Scandinavia has taken over our TVs of late. If you take this tour called ‘In the Footsteps of Borgen and Broen’ it explores the real locations of these two top dramas. You get a glamorous twist on a twin-centre city stop rather than the normal shopping and sightseeing. You visit 18th-century Christiansborg Palace also known as Borgen, which is the home of the Danish government. Then you cross the Øresund Bridge where the opening of Broen was filmed to reach Malmo. If you did not watch ‘The Bridge’ in its original format this may not mean as much to you. However once there you see more TV famous spots followed by Sweden’s tallest skyscraper. This trip is offered year-round and is for a total of 3 nights. Typical it cost around £1, 200 including the flights.
2. Chisinau : Learn about Moldova
A Chisinau City Break lifts the lid on this little known capital. Discover glorious 19th-century buildings amid blocks of Soviet-style architecture. There are plenty of landmarks including the neoclassical Nativity Cathedral, the dome-topped church anchors Chisinau' s Cathedral Park, a plaza with a Triumphal Arch celebrating Russia' s 19th-century victory over the Ottoman Empire. There is also a glut of green spaces as Chisinau has more than any other European city. There are some truly fine wine here and real buffs could time their visit for the October wine festival. Short breaks are available year-round a 3 night break around £700 including flights.
3. Rabat : Relax in easy going Rabat
Why not choose an alternative Morocco city break. Everyone goes to the popular tourist hot spots but here’s a chance to do something different; Rabat with its un-touristy souks and wide boulevards. The Moroccan capital Rabat is now serviced by three airlines flying from the UK and is actually more laid back than Marrakech. You can take a three-day tour to explore the UNESCO listed Kasbah des Oudaias, the nearby ruins of Chellah and take in the relaxed vibe. This type of trip is available year-round and last for 4 nights. Typically you can get this from £400 which includes the flights.
