Salute Restaurant, Key West - Part 2 - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Dining
Continued from part 1
After two lovely lunches we had not intended to go to Salute again but on our third evening we were going on a sunset cruise and knew that we would be arriving back in the Centre of Key West at dinner time, a bit wind swept and in casual beach gear. Although there are many restaurants where we could easily have eaten in our very casual attire we decided we would take a taxi back to the beach and made a reservation to eat at Salute. If we had time it was our intention to get washed and changed at our lodgings close to the beach, in the event we were cutting it fine but didn'' t feel at all underdressed in our shorts and T shirts to which we all added sweatshirts in case we needed some extra warmth.
When we arrived at Salute we found that the canvas sides had been rolled down to shield diners from the sea breezes. The atmosphere was cosy with candles on all the tables and despite the breezy evening it was not in the least bit chilly eating outside. As we had made a reservation we were shown to our table within five minutes of our arrival and as it was evening we decided to forgo the cocktails and opted for a nice bottle of wine from the more than adequate wine list.
As usual hubby opted for the safe option of soup for his appetizer, the soup of the night was minestrone which he declared to be very tasty. I chose sea scallops with ciabatta bread and the other members of our party chose tasty, colorful salads. Fancying comfort food my choice of main was lasagne which was the nightly special, hubby went for pasta carbonara with parmesan, peas, pancetta and chicken, my sister chose shrimp marinara over linguine whilst my brother in law chose a fresh fish dish in sauce, not sure, but I think it was snapper. There were no complaints from any of us about our appetizers or mains and none of us had the appetite for desert which was the same selection as lunch time.
On balance, I think I preferred the lunch time menu and certainly the lunchtime atmosphere, something to do with the cocktails maybe? That having been said I would certainly recommend Salute for a casual evening meal.
Salute can be found on Higgs Beach situated between The Casa Marina Hotel and The White Street Pier. For drinks only the bar is open from 11am - 10. 30pm, lunch is served 11. 30am - 4. 30pm and dinner 5pm- 9. 30pm, reservations can be made in advance and although not absolutely necessary probably very wise given the popularity of this place.
