Hollywood Beach: an overview. - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Travelling
Once you have been to the wonderful Orlando area a few times, your thoughts may turn to taking a side trip during your visit.
And if you do, may I recomend Hollywood Beach on the Atlantic Coast of Florida, just south of Fort Lauderdale.
I thought the best thing about Hollywood Beach is the boardwalk which runs for two and a half miles on a good, firm surface. You have stunning sea views to one side of you and tempting cafes to the other.
The boardwalk attracts roller skaters, bikers and joggers so it has a lively vibrant feel and you can rent bikes and jet skis from concessions.
The one mile North Beach has a glorious back drop of a 56 acre park. Kayak rentals are available to explore the intracoastal water ways.
If you have youg children along with you, then you will be pleased to know that there are 3 great parks here.
Should your visit co incide with a friday then head off to Arts Park whre there is free entertainement from 5 p. m. to 9 p. m.
This features magic, a bouncy castle, face painting and a visit from Mama Clown. Call 954 921 3404 for more info.
At the weekend, there is an organic market at the end of the beach where you can buy local produce to take back to your vacation rental home. You must try one of the tropical smoothies on offer
which will blow your mind.
Getting around is easy here and I urge you to stay in one of the small lodgings for the night and leave your car in the car park. There is a choice of a trolley or the waterbus to get you from place to place.
The trolley will take you to North Beach, South Beach and Downtown Hollywood for the princely sum of $1. The trolley does not operate on monday or tuesday
The water taxi has 14 stops dotted around all the places you may want to go to and tickets for this service will cost you $20 for an adult, $13 per child and $17 for senior citizens. This ticket is good for a whole day. There is a cheaper option for just the evening transportation.
Make your first stop at the tourist office to arm yourself with maps and advice:
