Historical Museum in Orlando - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Days Out
A visit to a museum is always a great way to discover the country you are visiting so may I recommend The Orange County Regional Historical Museum (particularly if you are a family group)
This museum is situated in East Central Boulevard (more on the location later) and encompaasses 12000 years of Orlando history over 3 floors.
This museum started life as a kitchen exhibit for the Central Florida Centenniel celebrations in 1942. This took up a room in the courthouse that was based on the corner of Central and Magnolia.
Due to public donations of historical itemsthis exhibit grew unti it took up several rooms.
In 1957 the exhibits were put into storage for 6 years before they appeared in a new home at the new courthouse.
7 years later it was relocated to Christ Building and from there to Loch Haven Park. The circle was finally completed at the turn of this century when it moved back to it' s (rebuilt) starting point.
There are 12 centuries of B. M (before mouse) local history to explore here. These cover people and places of the past which is called Orlando Remembered as well as traveling exhibits.
There is a Jack Kerouc display which includes hand annotated pieces of his work and photos of the great man himself which were taken for Time magazine.
Abstracts of Title folows the chains of ownership for the places of Orlando' s past.
There are always travelling displays and just right now there are Peanuts and Warner Brothers exhibitions.
The Peanute dispay combines some learning with the fun and shows a cartoon journey through the natural world.
In the Warner Brothers exhibit you will see original paintings and art from the cartoons of the 1930' s 50' s and 60' s.
This museum holds many special events and to pick just one are the lunch and lecture sessions. Hear about a fascinating local subject and then mingle to eat the packed lunch (you now provide your own) These sessions cost ony $3 and at the moment the subjects are Henry Plant ( we all think we know all about him, but do we really? ) and Wilds To Wonderland.
I have hinted at where you wil find this museum, but here is the full address
