Florida Beaches - A Short Guide - Orlando / Florida Guide
Florida Guide > Other Florida
Florida is known for being the “ fun capital of the world “ and for having that very famous mouse ! But there is much more to it than that and if you have any spare time it is worth visiting some of the beaches. You can drive to the beaches on the Atlantic coast like Cocoa beach, where the world famous Ron Jons surf shop is , you can get some really good swimwear here.
On the Atlantic coast the sea is very different to the calm seas of the Gulf coast. Surfers come for miles to ride the waves here and watching them is great. The children love the waves here and surf boards can be hired but care must be taken in the strong currants here.
There are often small pools left by the tides and these are safer for smaller children.
There are plenty of nice bars and eateries for drinks and snacks and the seafood here is great.
They even have a picnic area with outdoor showers to wash off the sea and sand before you eat !
Then there is Daytona, this is a great place to visit, there is the race track where lots of famous drivers come to race, you can also go onto the tract to watch the practices and even drive ( a bit expensive but great for the enthusiasts ) There are often concerts held here too with famous artists like Shania Twain .
You are actually able to park on the beach , it is nice to take a picnic and sit and watch the world go by, quad bikes are available to hire and people can be seen driving up and down , certainly something you won’t see at home.
My favorites are the beautiful white sugar sands of the Gulf coast, they are absolutely breathtaking, there are several to chose from , Clearwater, Sarasota and St. Petersburg are the only ones so far I have seen , but Naples and Sanibel are on my list to visit as soon as I get the chance.
St. Petersburg has its own pier , with some lovely restaurants and shops, boat rides to watch the Dolphins and the beach is just wonderful. It is so nice to just chill out and enjoy that Florida sunshine. Some of the most breathtaking sunsets can be seen from here too.
In Clearwater there are lots of water sports like jet skiing and windsurfing, boat rides, speedboats and the very popular screamer boat ride.
So if you feel like a restful day on a beautiful beach, spoil yourself !
